It’s a special time of year… whatever ‘holy-day’ you celebrate. A special time because we tend to remind ourselves to be more present with friends and family.
Instead of leaning on old ideas about this holiday, I’m going to put forward a few that have begun to literally alter the fabric of my own life over these past few weeks.
Recently, I re-read a book called “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.
Yes, it’s an old book. Written in a different time but it has an evergreen message!
It is a message that bodes well for this time of year because it’s about NEW BEGINNINGS and the power of real forward movement by taking charge of YOUR MIND to bring into existence the life you truly want to live.
Now that Jai and I are into our second year of driving a Big Truck and a bit more confident and comfortable in this ‘gig’. I’m coming to see how taking this road (no pun intended) has set up an opportunity for me… and opportunity to step out of old, tired habits/routines and move firmly onto whole new ground.
IF you haven’t read “Think & Grow Rich”, read it before the year closes.
IF you have read it… re-read it before the close of the year.
Determine to be numbered among the 2% of those who truly know what they want in life. Those people who can answer the question, “What do you want?” without hesitation.
Knowing what you want is the first step to getting it. There can be no “getting” until you know what you really want.
The first principle of a changed life is “definite purpose”. Something we are not encouraged to explore for the most part.
We are encouraged to fit the cut of the clothes we’re handed down by society, family, education, career and on and on… but not necessarily to THINK about what we truly want.
If you’re going to do anything at the beginning of this next year… THINK. Discover. Explore the most powerful thing you and I have ever been given… our minds.
Your mind is the only place where you have genuine charge over anything. Everything else? Well, control of any kind is an illusion.
But your mind? It’s the very breeding ground of every success life has offer.
In Napoleon’s book there is a poem. The author is unknown. It was used in a speech to a graduating class nearly 100 years ago. It goes like this…
“I bargained with life for a pennyand life would pay me no moreThough I begged at every tideWhen I counted my scanty storeFor life is a just employerAnd will pay you what you askBut when you have set the wagesThen you must bear the taskI worked for a menial’s hireOnly to find dismayedWhatever I had asked of life, life would have willingly paid.
Do not doubt it… that poem is true!
Whatever you ask IS possible and all you have to do is ASK… without selling yourself short!
The only one standing in the way, is you. This is very good news because it means you can get out of the way.
If you’re not satisfied 100% in every way with life as it currently is for you… then perhaps you have sold yourself short. Perhaps you have not considered enough what it is you truly want… and ASKED.
It is a place to begin a New Year… discovering what you want.
Peace and Happy Holidays to you,
